Children’s Activities

As a family business, we understand how important time with your children is – and how much fun it can be. Our rewarding programme of children’s activities might just inspire the whole family.

At our workshops, children can try out a huge range of skills with local experts whose enthusiasm for their specialist activity, be it felting, baking, animation, science or bushcraft is infectious. Ideas for our workshops are sparked by our exhibitions, seasonal themes or innovative technology like 3D printing. Traditional Cumbrian skills are valued alongside exciting new ways of working, and there’s always something new to try in a fun, supportive environment. Individual event details state when an activity requires accompanying adults to have a ticket.

Alongside our creative workshops we host storytelling, comedy, face painting and children’s theatre events that are designed to capture the imagination. We also show children’s films on our enormous 3D screen, and on Saturday mornings between September and April, we hold a children’s film club with tickets at just £2.

Journey through 6 stories and experience Roald Dahl’s Wondrous World at Rheged this summer! Christopher’s Caterpillars with Topsy Turvy Theatre

Glow in the dark dream catcher with Artscool

Inspired by Roald Dahl’s Wondrous World in the Main Gallery, join Artscool to create a Dreamcatcher. Starting with a glow in the dark loop, wrap your dream catcher with colourful ribbon, wool and threads. Choose your own personal colour scheme and decorate with beads, pom-poms, feathers and felt shapes. Sweet dreams! Please note - this will glow in the dark for 1 night only, however can continue to be used as a dreamcatcher!   Parental supervision required.

Family Fun Yoga

Join Yogi in the Lakes for a special family session where you can enjoy Yoga with your child – don’t worry if you have never tried it before.. Practise postures and breathing together in this fun and uplifting class and come out feeling calm and relaxed for the rest of the days activities. Happy Snappy Crocodile hand-puppet with Artscool

Join Artscool to create Happy Snappy Crocodile hand-puppet inspired by Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile! Approx 30cm long. Starting with a cardboard base create your own munchingly good crocodile. Personalise with pointy teeth, big eyes and colourful collage.  Your puppet will be ready to plot secret plans and clever tricks at the end of the workshop. Parental supervision required.

Performing Arts Workshop with Razzamataz Theatre Schools

This exciting workshop for ages 6-11 will include singing, dance and drama. There will be a short presentation at the end for parent/guardians where the children will all get a chance to shine! The perfect way to meet new friends, learn new skills and have fun! No experience required. A minimum of 10 children will have to attend for the workshop to go ahead. 10am-1:30pm (including a 30 minute lunch break - please bring a packed lunch)
