Children’s Activities

As a family business, we understand how important time with your children is – and how much fun it can be. Our rewarding programme of children’s activities might just inspire the whole family.

At our workshops, children can try out a huge range of skills with local experts whose enthusiasm for their specialist activity, be it felting, baking, animation, science or bushcraft is infectious. Ideas for our workshops are sparked by our exhibitions, seasonal themes or innovative technology like 3D printing. Traditional Cumbrian skills are valued alongside exciting new ways of working, and there’s always something new to try in a fun, supportive environment. Individual event details state when an activity requires accompanying adults to have a ticket.

Alongside our creative workshops we host storytelling, comedy, face painting and children’s theatre events that are designed to capture the imagination. We also show children’s films on our enormous 3D screen, and on Saturday mornings between September and April, we hold a children’s film club with tickets at just £2.

Back by popular demand, join the popular blue haired Professor Pumpernickel with all his favourite scientific demonstrations. Animation with Mythological Creatures

This session is ideal for children interested in drawing, animation, filmmaking, dragons and unicorns.  Join animator Sheryl Jenkins and create your own mythological creature and then learn how animation is made.  Using your new filmmaking skills we'll make cut-out creatures, use apps to animate them, and add our own voices and sound effects to bring them to life.    At the end of the session you can take your finished creature home and a copy of your film will be…

Unicorn Tea Party

Join us for a Unicorn themed afternoon tea party, to include sandwiches, cakes, unicorn horn cones and a speciality unicorn hot chocolate. Wear your best magical fancy dress costume, try a magical glitter tattoo and join in with fun games, activities and storytelling. Parental supervision required.
