What are Rheged's opening times?

Our Rheged Café is open for breakfast from 08:30. Our Box Office is open 9am – 8pm. See the full opening times here

Is Rheged open all year round?

Yes except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day

Do I have to pay when I come in?

Entry into the Centre is free and Parking is for free.  Charges only apply to attractions such as our films, live streaming, the summer exhibitions, some shows and fairs, children’s play and events.

Can we bring our dog in?

We allow dogs into our Foyer, Outdoor Shop and brand new Dog Cafe seating area. Only registered Guide dogs, Hearing Dogs or Assistance Dogs are allowed into the rest of the centre. We do have a covered parking area at the bottom of our car park for those visitors travelling with dogs, and a water bowl in our front entrance.

Can I pre-book a table in the café?

We do take table reservations in our Main Cafe. To book a table please contact our Welcome Desk team on 01768 868 000 or alternatively email us.

Do I have to accompany my child in a booked workshop?

Individual event details state whether parental supervision is required, or when an activity requires accompanying adults to have their own ticket.

Can I get a ticket refund if I am unable to come?

All tickets are non-refundable

Can I can a refund if I can't come due to adverse weather?

It is inevitable that as inclement weather sets in there will be times when those travelling to us may feel it is not safe or wise to travel. However, in the great tradition of the theatre, the show does go on despite the weather and Rheged does not refund individuals, nor exchange tickets for those who choose not to travel. If you do choose to travel in inclement weather, please allow plenty of extra time.

Rheged will inform customers if there are any alterations to the performance schedule if the weather makes it impossible to go ahead as planned. It is vital that at the time of booking you give us correct and up to date contact details.

Do groups or coaches need to pre-book or can they just turn up to the venue?

We ask all groups arriving on a coach or mini bus to pre-book, to ensure we make the correct arrangements.

Ticket Price Guidelines - Concessions

– 60 years and over.

– Students – Student ID Card or NUS card required. Must be presented at time of ticket collection/upon arrival for event.  Must be booked on 01768 868000, or in person.

Ticket Price Guidelines - Child

–  16 years and under

–  Children aged 2 years and under who sit on a parents lap will have free entry to our films, exhibitions and family theatre shows. If a seat is required a child’s ticket will be charged.


Ticket Price Guidelines - Carers

– People with disabilities who are unable to attend events on their own are entitled to one free ticket for their support worker or carer. Must be booked on 01768 868000, or in person. Relevant discount cards must be presented at time of ticket collection/upon arrival for event.

What facilities do you have for babies?

Rheged has facilities for baby changing, heating bottles and food as well as great pram and buggy acccess around the centre

Do you have a car park?

Yes and we have 250 spaces, plus disabled parking and coach parking. Its free to park, but our car park is for Rheged customers only and cars or motorhomes are not permitted to park overnight.

Can we bring our own picnics to eat on site?

We do not allow food other than that bought in Rheged to be consumed in the centre. However we do have outside picnic benches which customers are welcome to use

Can I get a refund on a product in your shop?

Yes if you produce a receipt and do this within 28 days of purchase.

Is there anything for children to do and if so what ages?

Rheged is a great place to visit particularly for children from 0-11 as we have a pottery painting workshop, indoor and outdoor play and a programme of children’s events, workshops and films plus  a summer family exhibition.

What is Rheged, when did it open and who owns it?

Rheged is a centre for Arts and Culture, Play and family activities, Food and Shops, which are of this place. We have indoor and outdoor play, children’s workshops, a Gallery, 2 cinema screens showing the newest releases, cafes, shops, a spa and a year round programme of events. Rheged opened in 2000 and its part of the Westmorland family of businesses, owned by the Dunning family who also own and run Gloucester services, Tebay Services & Hotel and Cairn Lodge Services.

Why is it call Rheged and how do you pronounce it?

Rheged was the name of the ancient kingdom of Cumbria which stretched from Stranraer to Cheshire and over to the north east and was chosen to reflect the Centre’s vision of being a place rooted in  Cumbria. It is pronounced Reg ed.

What is the nearest lake to Rheged?

Ullswater and it’s 10 minutes from Rheged.

Where can I go for a drink or a bite to eat before or after the event?

We have three cafes which are all open during the day. For evening events the café/bar stays open until the event starts and will be open during the interval but not after event.

Is there a hearing loop at the venue?

We have a hearing loop in Screen 1, but not in Screen 2.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible

Yes all areas of the centre are wheelchair accessible with designated seating areas in the cafes and cinema

Online Booking

Online booking closes 2 hours before the event start time. For last minute bookings, please call the Rheged Box Office on 01768 868000.

Following your online booking, you will receive an eticket by email, which you will need to present on arrival at Rheged, either printed, or displayed on a smartphone or tablet. Further instructions can be found on your eticket.
