Photographic Print – ‘Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu Icefall’
This photographic print was selected by Derek Eland from his archive of materials captured during his 6-week stay at Everest base camp. This view of the Khumbu Ice Fall was actually taken from Derek’s Tent. The vivid yellow tents that make up the mile long temporary community of Basecamp stand out against the white snow. At base camp 90% of the sun’s rays reach the ground, compared to 20% at sea level. Many people choose to stay inside their tents or each other’s to limit their exposure.
