Mini Canadian Canoe Building Workshop with Orca

Mini Canadian Canoe Building Workshop with Orca

Visitors are invited to attend a Canadian Canoe building workshop under the guidance of Orca. During the workshop, you will build a beautiful wooden canoe, ready to take away and float. The canoe is around 60cms long and is made using simple hand tools. You are welcome to paint your canoe, just please be aware that elaborate paint jobs may require some drying time of upto an hour. If you are in a hurry, we will use a ‘dry brushing’ technique that dries instantly. No experience necessary.

Orca is a Lakes based artisan canoe building partnership, based in Pooley Bridge, on the shores of Ullswater. Dan Platt and Steve Smith who run the company, started out building canoes and running guided trips back in 1997, and now focus solely on offering short courses for families and individuals. We normally run courses over a long weekend, and have now built over 500 full size Canadian canoes, using really simple construction methods. The workshops are very relaxed and loads of fun. All abilities very welcome.
