Learn Sashiko with Susan Briscoe: Marking and stitching Maru Shippo (round seven treasures)
Designer and textile artist, Susan Briscoe will make this classic Japanese design seem easy to mark, with the help of some unexpected household items. Participants will mark the design on a 38 x 38 cm panel, the perfect size for a cushion centre or a bag panel, and learn the Sashiko stitching technique. The masterclass kit includes a choice of Sashiko fabrics, Sashiko threads and a needle. Suitable for beginners or the more experienced stitcher.
Susan learned Sashiko in Japan, where she worked as an assistant English teacher on the JET Programme after graduating in Visual Art and Drama from UCW Aberystwyth. She collects and studies vintage and antique Japanese textiles and other items which inspire her work. She is the author of over a dozen books on patchwork and quilting, including ‘The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook’, ‘Japanese Sashiko Inspirations’, ‘Simple Sashiko’ and ‘Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match’.
