Cumbria Life Christmas at Rheged 2019 – Free Talks & Demos

The Christmas market will be complemented by a programme of expert led talks and demonstrations, 40 minutes in duration, which are included in your show ticket.

Saturday 16 November

11am – ‘Gift Wrapping Demo’ with Louise Lewis, Professional Gift Wrapping Services, Workshops & Events

Louise Lewis will share her top tips to take the stress out of Christmas gift wrapping! Not only will she show you how to perfectly wrap a box with an invisible seam and tie beautifully perfect bows, she’ll show you how to make a gift bag, so you’ll never need to buy one again!

Biography: After a long career in the corporate world, Louise decided to take the leap and work for herself. Armed with lots of ideas and bags of motivation she launched Louise Lewis – Professional Gift Wrapping Services, Workshops & Events, offering a range of gift wrapping services for both private and corporate clients.

12 noon – ‘Decorating for Christmas Scandi-Style’ with Amelia Wilson Interiors Ltd

If tinsel, glitter and flashing coloured lights really isn’t your thing, then pop along to hear Amelia talk about how you can achieve a natural and understated (but still very festive) look in your home this Christmas.

She will focus on how to incorporate natural elements into your Christmas styling, adding lots of texture, soft lighting and warm tones to create a festive look without all the fuss.

Biography: Amelia Wilson Interiors Ltd offers professional and affordable interior design and project management services for home and business owners in Cumbria, the North of England and Dumfries & Galloway.

1pm – ‘Christmas Cocktails’ with Helen Askew of The Tipsy Filly

In this popular demo, Helen will create a variety of cocktails perfect for the festive season. From her classic Rudolf Cranberry Gin Medley and Mince Pie Martini to new botanical recipes using fresh herbs and fruits, which are all locally sourced. Helen will also showcase her new range of Tipsy Filly gin, lovingly made with a local distillery with her own secret recipe!

Biography: The Tipsy Filly was Helen’s idea to convert a very old horse box trailer from which to serve delicious Gin and Prosecco at weddings and festivals. Helen and her Dad started the conversion using recycled wood from doors and a science lab table as the bar! New for 2018, The Tipsy Filly at Home now offer cocktail demos at parties and family gatherings.

2pm – ‘The Ultimate Christmas Stuffing’ with Will Manley of The Yan at Broadrayne, Grasmere

The Yan’s Executive Chef, Will Manley, will demonstrate how to make the ‘Ultimate Festive Stuffing’ to perfectly complement your Christmas Dinner. He will then showcase the best pigs in blankets in the business to make an epic ‘Christmas Leftover Bap’ ready to enjoy on Boxing Day and beyond!

Biography: A 17th Century former farm, and named after the word for ‘one’ in Cumbrian dialect, The Yan has seven plush en-suite bedrooms, a rustic bistro and an open-plan lounge area. Family-run and part of the Broadrayne Farm site, The Yan epitomises Cumbrian hospitality, offering guests wholesome, hearty food and stylish interiors. The Yan’s bistro is a casual yet classy eatery serving seasonal dishes inspired by the farm’s rich history. Using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients as the focal point the menu contains rustic Cumbrian classics and nostalgic British favourites with contemporary twists.
Executive Chef, Will Manley joined The Yan in 2018 following his time in the French Alps managing a privately-owned chalet company and boutique hotel. He has previously worked as a sous chef at the well-known and very popular Homeground Café in Windermere and at Michelin-starred restaurant, Forest Side where he developed hugely within the high-level environment.

Dan McGeorge, Head Chef of Rothay Manor in the heart of the Lake District, will demonstrate how to give the traditional festive snacks and treats a unique twist to wow all your guests this festive season.

Biography: Head Chef, Dan McGeorge, is something of a revelation, tucked away in the three AA rosetted kitchens at Rothay Manor, in the heart of the English lakes, this quiet, studious chef is producing food that really makes you want to sit up and take notice.

Dan’s cooking style is focussed on using the very best seasonal produce and cooking it to showcase the potential of every element of the produce he uses. Taste, texture and balance are the fundamental ingredients in his cooking – his quest to achieve exemplary clarity of flavour in each dish he creates, intriguing diners along the way.

2pm – ‘Garland Making’ with Sally Pigg of Roseberry Floral Design

Learn how to make your own beautiful door garland to welcome your guests throughout the Christmas season. Sally will start by demonstrating how to bind fresh seasonal foliage on to a hand crafted moss base. She will then be adorning the garland with festive orange slices, cinnamon sticks, pinecones, alongside other dried items; all finished with a beautiful bow.

Biography: Sally has been in the floristry industry for 15 years, and recently decided to focus on the core of her business, wedding flowers, and now works from a home studio near Dalston, Carlisle. She has been creating lovely door garlands and wreaths for many years too.
