The Christmas market will be complemented by a programme of expert led talks and demonstrations, 40 minutes in duration, which are included in your show ticket.

Saturday 17 November

11am – ‘Gift Wrapping Demo’ with Louise Lewis, Professional Gift Wrapping Services, Workshops & Events

Louise Lewis will share her top tips to take the stress out of Christmas gift wrapping! Not only will she show you how to perfectly wrap a box with an invisible seam and tie beautifully perfect bows, she’ll share how to wrap a bottle – with no bottle bag required!

After a long career in the corporate world, Louise decided to take the leap and work for herself.  Armed with lots of ideas and bags of motivation she launched Louise Lewis – Professional Gift Wrapping Services, Workshops & Events, offering a range of gift wrapping services for both private and corporate clients.

12pm – ‘Christmas Cocktails’ with Helen Askew of The Tipsy Filly

In this popular demo, Helen will create a variety of cocktails perfect for the festive season. From her classic Rudolf Cranberry Gin Medley and Mince Pie Martini to new botanical recipes including grapefruit and rose, and lime and coriander. They’re all made with fresh herbs and fruits, which are locally sourced too!

The Tipsy Filly was Helen’s idea to convert a very old horse box trailer from which to serve delicious Gin and Prosecco at weddings and festivals. Helen and her Dad started the conversion using recycled wood from doors and a science lab table as the bar! New for 2018, The Tipsy Filly at Home now offer cocktail demos at parties and family gatherings.

1pm – ‘Kysty Christmas Baking’ with Ryan Blackburn of The Old Stamp House Restaurant and Kysty, Ambleside

Ryan is delighted to join the show to share his top tips on decorating your Christmas cake ‘Kysty style’ as well as unique ideas for homemade sweet treats and edible gifts ready for the festive season.

Chef patron of both the award-winning Old Stamp House Restaurant and the recently-opened Kysty in Ambleside; Ryan Blackburn was born and bred in the Lakes and serves the best local fare, big on flavour and Cumbrian provenance. Ryan appeared in the 2018 series of the BBC’s MasterChef, making it to the final ten chefs. Before launching the Old Stamp House Restaurant, Ryan worked in positions at both Holbeck Ghyll and The Cottage in the Wood, Whinlatter.

2pm – ‘Wines for Christmas’ with Richard Bracken of Grapevine, The Wineservice Company

Richard will share his favourite wines, perfect for the festive season. Expect to see, and taste, the unexpected and see what will pair nicely with your turkey and trimmings. You may even find a stocking filler too!

Formerly a sommelier at Askham Hall, Richard Bracken, has spent time in numerous restaurants across the country whilst studying and undertaking his exams in wine. Early this year, he began to work for Grapevine, the Keswick based wine merchant who have been working with some of Cumbria’s most renowned hotels and restaurants for over 25 years. Grapevine have an extensive selection of fine wines, as well as local spirits and beers.

3.00pm – ‘Garland Making’ with Sally Pigg of Roseberry Floral Design

Learn how to make your own beautiful door garland to welcome your guests throughout the Christmas season. Sally will start by demonstrating how to bind fresh seasonal foliage on to a hand crafted moss base. She will then be adorning the garland with festive orange slices, cinnamon sticks, pinecones, alongside other dried items; all finished with a beautiful bow.

Sally has been in the floristry industry for 15 years, and recently decided to focus on the core of her business, wedding flowers, and now works from a home studio near Dalston, Carlisle. She has been creating lovely door garlands and wreaths for many years too.

2pm – ‘Wines, Vines and What to Drink on Christmas Day’ with Sam Jary of Black Hand Wine

Winemaker and grape grower Sam Jary has spent more than a decade growing grapes and making wine in Spain, New Zealand and France. A specialist in organic and biodynamic growing, he is now the owner of a small, award-winning wine shop in Penrith called Black Hand Wine.

Every autumn, he travels over to Burgundy to make wine with his old friend Romain Chapuis, including some with no added sulfites, which he brings back to sell in his shop. Sam doesn’t read from a script and welcomes the chance to answer any burning questions you might have about wine, vines and what to eat with what – please don’t be shy!

He can also recommend the perfect wines to drink on Christmas Day and tell you why organic, biodynamic and no added sulfite wines should make waking up on Boxing Day a far nicer experience!

 3pm – ‘Seasonal Styling’ with Gail Bashall of Adlib Women’s Fashion, Penrith

Gail will be sharing some seasonal styling tips for local ladies demonstrating how to make the most of their winter wardrobe.

Gail Bashall has been working in the women’s fashion industry for over twenty years with a broad experience of design, retail and styling. She runs her own retail shop, Adlib in Penrith which draws inspiration from her years of involvement in textiles, art and design.
